House Speaker Martin Romualdez expressed strong support for the Department of Agriculture’s rollout of the P20 per kilo rice program, calling it a key step toward fulfilling President Marcos’ campaign promise.
The program, which began last month using locally sourced palay, aims to sell rice at subsidized prices to low-income Filipinos while ensuring fair pay for farmers.
Romualdez pledged that Congress will allocate funds through the 2026 General Appropriations Act to expand and institutionalize the program nationwide.
He also highlighted plans to unify related subsidy programs into a Rice Assistance Fund to ensure sustainable support and efficient delivery.
The House Speaker emphasized that the program will be transparent, corruption-free, and supported by technology to guarantee that no Filipino goes hungry.
