Mayor Jerry Treñas showcased Iloilo City’s progress toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during his State of the City Address on Monday.
He highlighted a decline in poverty from 8.4% in early 2021 to 6.8% in 2023 and discussed efforts to further reduce poverty through job creation and targeted programs.
Treñas also emphasized achievements in food security, with the Rise-A-Farm program being a finalist for the Walang Gutom Award and efforts to combat malnutrition among preschoolers.
He reported on significant investments in health, including the construction of a PHP1.2 billion hospital and new health facilities, and advancements in education with increased funding and scholarships.
Additionally, the mayor outlined environmental and transportation improvements, such as renewable energy incentives, a completed Local Public Transport Route Plan, and plans for a Bus Rapid Transit system.
