A lost 12-string acoustic guitar once owned by John Lennon, the late member of The Beatles, is set to be auctioned in May after being discovered in the attic of a home in Britain.
The guitar, expected to fetch between $600,000 to $800,000, was used by Lennon on the band’s 1965 album “Help!”.
Found by the current homeowners during a house move, the guitar’s authenticity was verified by Julien’s Auctions, who also found its original Maton Australian-made case in the trash.
The instrument is believed to have passed through British musician Gordon Waller before ending up with its recent owners.
The auction is scheduled for May 29 at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York and online.
This follows the recent recovery of a stolen Hofner bass guitar belonging to Paul McCartney after 51 years.
Previously, musical instruments associated with The Beatles have commanded high prices at auctions, including a guitar stolen from Lennon in the 1960s, which sold for $2.41 million in 2015.
