The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigation into the Philippines’ war on drugs has named former President Rodrigo Duterte, along with former police chiefs Senator Ronald dela Rosa and Oscar Albayalde, as potential subjects for scrutiny.
ICC Assistant to Counsel Kristina Conti highlighted the potential investigation of Dela Rosa and Albayalde due to their command responsibility, noting that the ICC has established crimes against humanity within the country.
Conti also suggested that Vice President Sara Duterte might be included in the investigation, given the probe’s scope covering the so-called Davao death squad period.
Despite the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) preparation of legal briefs on President Marcos’ options, the administration maintains its stance against ICC jurisdiction, which has drawn criticism from former government officials and calls from the Liberal Party to reconsider cooperation with the ICC probe.
