HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON LIVE-ACTION REMAKE SOARS WITH $83.7M DEBUT

The live-action reboot of How to Train Your Dragon soared to the top of the North American box office with a powerful $83.7 million debut, surpassing the $55 million opening of its 2019 animated predecessor. 

Directed by franchise veteran Dean DeBlois, the film also earned $114.1 million internationally, bringing its global total to $197.8 million. 

Disney’s Lilo & Stitch dropped to second place after three weeks at No. 1, adding $15.5 million to its $386.3 million domestic run. 

Newcomer Materialists, starring Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal, claimed third with $12 million, while Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Ballerina rounded out the top five. 

Industry analysts say the box office is now up 23% year-on-year, with more summer hits expected in the coming weeks.
