The House of Representatives will be ready to receive any impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte starting Feb. 6, when the Supreme Court’s one-year bar on filing lapses.
House leaders said the chamber will follow constitutional and procedural rules while complying with the SC’s clarified notice requirements for the “express route” of filing.
The SC modified its earlier ruling, removing restrictive due process requirements at the filing stage and placing the notice burden on House members submitting the complaint.
Procedural issues aside, the Court did not rule on the substantive allegations in the impeachment raps, which include alleged misuse of P125 million in confidential funds linked to dubious receipts like “Mary Grace Piattos.”
Lawmakers have emphasized that the House will comply with procedural rules while continuing to investigate the merits of the case.
