Former Bamban mayor Alice Guo was arrested in Indonesia and flown back to Manila, escorted by a top-level Philippine delegation, including Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos and Philippine National Police Chief Rommel Francisco Marbil.
Guo is facing multiple charges, including violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, involvement in illegal Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGOs), and allegations of human trafficking linked to an illegal POGO hub.
She was brought to Camp Crame for temporary detention, with plans to transfer her to the Senate sergeant-at-arms.
Abalos noted that Guo expressed relief upon her arrest, citing fear for her life while in hiding.
The Senate has questioned her escape story, suspecting false claims about her journey to Malaysia, and has criticized the Bureau of Immigration for failing to prevent her departure.
