Philippine weightlifting continues to thrive, with Lovely Inan and Angeline Colonia each winning two gold medals and a silver at the IWF World Junior Championships in Leon, Spain.
Inan, 19, secured gold in the clean and jerk with a lift of 100 kilograms and a total of 179 kilograms, while earning silver in the snatch with 79 kilograms.
Colonia, 18, triumphed in the snatch (74 kg) and total (162 kg) in the women’s 45 kg division, also taking silver in the clean and jerk (88 kg).
Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president Monico Puentevella expressed confidence in their potential, suggesting that they could earn Olympic medals by 2028.
Meanwhile, fellow competitor Rose Jean Ramos placed sixth with a total lift of 165 kg, while Eron Borres and Prince Kiel Delos Santos fell short in the men’s 55 kg category.
