GO PUSHES FOR MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS IN STATE UNIVERSITIES

Senator Bong Go has filed the “State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) Mental Health Service Act of 2025” to establish accessible mental health services across all state universities and colleges in the Philippines.

The bill responds to rising cases of depression, anxiety, and suicide among students, driven by academic pressure, economic hardship, and the lasting impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It mandates the creation of Mental Health Offices on campuses to run awareness campaigns, suicide prevention, and wellness programs tailored to student needs.

The proposal also requires hiring licensed mental health professionals and coordinating with the Department of Health and other agencies to strengthen support services.

The Commission on Higher Education will draft the implementing rules to ensure effective execution of the law.
