Sherwin Gatchalian said he is ready to serve as Senate president amid reported coup attempts within the Senate leadership.
Gatchalian said his 10 years in the Senate and leadership of key committees, including Finance, Energy, and Basic Education, have prepared him for greater responsibilities.
He added that he believes leadership opportunities will come at the right time and stressed the need to restore the Senate’s dignity and public image.
The senator lamented that the chamber has recently been associated more with “drama” and online memes than legislation, especially after the recent shooting incident inside the Senate.
Gatchalian belongs to the minority bloc that voted against the leadership of Alan Peter Cayetano, while reports of possible moves to change the Senate leadership continue.
