Former president Rodrigo Duterte welcomed the New Year quietly, spending the holiday sleeping, eating, and watching TV, according to his daughter Veronica “Kitty” Duterte.
She said he was pleased to hear that Filipinos still visited him outside the ICC detention center in The Hague, where he has been incarcerated since March 2025, and he sent greetings to everyone.
Kitty described her own New Year in Europe as happy but incomplete without her father.
Looking ahead to 2026, she said she aims to focus on personal growth and being a stronger, better version of herself for her family.
She also urged young Filipinos to stop comparing themselves with others and instead focus on self-improvement.
