Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada revealed that the individual who assisted dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo’s escape holds five passports from various countries.
Guo, along with her siblings and business partner, managed to flee the country in July, with Guo being apprehended in September.
Estrada disclosed that this person is now reportedly in Taiwan, but Guo refused to provide further details for safety reasons.
During a Senate hearing, Guo was questioned about whether she escaped or was smuggled out, but she did not elaborate.
Sen. Raffy Tulfo raised concerns about the Philippines’ border control system, suggesting it could become a hub for transnational crimes due to its weak regulations.
