FILIPINO SEAFARER CONFIRMED DEAD IN TANKER STRIKE NEAR ROMANIA

A seafarer reported by Romanian media to be Filipino died after a strike hit the Ukraine-bound gas tanker Gas Lisbon in the Black Sea, leaving two other crew members injured.

The Liberian-flagged vessel, carrying more than 3,790 tonnes of propane, was en route to Ukraine from Egypt when it was struck outside Romanian territorial waters.

Ukraine blamed Russia for the attack, while Romanian President Nicusor Dan described the incident as likely linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Russian authorities have not responded to the allegations, and Romanian investigators are still determining the cause of the strike.

Emergency crews said the tanker remains too dangerous to access because of high temperatures despite the fire being brought under control.
