The Philippines has been named host of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2027, marking the country’s first continental basketball event in over a decade.
The announcement was made by the FIBA Regional Office-Asia following a June 26 board meeting.
This comes after the Philippines last hosted a major continental tournament in 2013 and recently co-hosted the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
FIBA officials and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) expressed enthusiasm, highlighting the event’s potential to boost women’s basketball locally and across Asia.
The hosting aligns with the growing momentum of women’s basketball in the Philippines, including the establishment of a professional league and players competing abroad.
