EX-ILOILO CITY COUNCILOR SEEKS SUPREME COURT REVIEW OF MABILOG’S CLEMENCY

A former Iloilo City councilor, Plaridel Nava, is asking the Supreme Court to review the executive clemency granted to former mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog by President Marcos.

Nava plans to file a petition for certiorari, claiming that the clemency was granted with legal flaws and constitutes a grave abuse of discretion.

He argues that Mabilog, who was dismissed by the Ombudsman in 2017, is ineligible for clemency since he still faces criminal charges at the Sandiganbayan.

The Office of the President defended its decision, citing Mabilog’s achievements during his tenure, including awards for the city and recognition as a top mayor.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, on the other hand, congratulated Mabilog on the clemency, hoping it marks a new chapter for him and his family.
