ETHICS PANEL FINDS SUNTAY GUILTY OF CONDUCT UNBECOMING OF A CONGRESSMAN

The House of Representatives formally disciplined Quezon City 4th District Rep. Jesus “Bong” Suntay after adopting an Ethics Committee report that found his remarks about actress Anne Curtis-Smith violated the chamber’s Code of Conduct and standards for public officials.

Lawmakers voted 263–8 with seven abstentions to approve Committee Report No. 299, which recommended a reprimand, community service, gender sensitivity training, and a public apology.

The committee ruled that Suntay’s statements during a March 3, 202,6 House Justice Committee hearing were offensive, sexist, and damaging to the institution’s reputation, despite being struck from the official record.

It also found him in violation of Republic Act 6713, which requires professionalism, respect, and good conduct from public officials.

Suntay admitted to making the remarks during proceedings and issued an apology to those affected.
