Emma Raducanu began her Korea Open campaign with a hard-fought 7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/5) victory over American Peyton Stearns.
The 2021 US Open champion, ranked 70th in the world, endured a 2hr 43min battle in humid conditions to advance to the next round.
Raducanu, who has faced several high-profile withdrawals from the tournament, expressed satisfaction with her performance and thanked the fans for their support.
She will next face China’s Yue Yuan, the eighth seed. In other matches, American Hailey Baptiste progressed by defeating Sloane Stephens, while sixth seed Yulia Putintseva was eliminated by Amanda Anisimova.
