The DSWD will prioritize the oldest indigent Filipinos under its Social Pension Program, which is allocated P51.8 billion in the 2026 budget.
Republic Act No. 11916 increased the monthly pension from P500 to P1,000 for senior citizens.
The agency aims to provide benefits to around 171,000 waitlisted elderly, based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
DSWD Undersecretary Adonis Sulit emphasized that all qualified seniors will be included, including replacements for those who passed away or became ineligible.
Last year, the program already assisted over 4.1 million indigent senior citizens nationwide.
