DOTr CONSIDERS BIOMETRICS FOR SMOOTHER AIRPORT PASSENGER PROCESSING

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is considering the integration of biometrics technology in Philippine airports to streamline passenger processing, as announced by Department of Transportation Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Sector Roberto Lim.

According to Lim, the implementation of biometrics could enhance the efficiency and convenience of the airport experience for travelers, enabling seamless transitions from entrance to boarding using a single biometric token linked to a passport or other biometric ID.

Currently, airport operators like the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Davao International Airport Authority (DIAA) are exploring pilot operations to introduce and deploy biometric technology.

A recent Biometric Airport Passenger Processing Forum held in Davao City featured discussions led by experts from leading biometrics technology firms such as Amadeus, Collins Aerospace, Idemia, SITA, and VisionBox.

The forum saw participation from various stakeholders including airport authorities, airlines, immigration agencies, and ground handling companies.
