Nonito Donaire Jr. made a successful comeback Sunday, winning the WBA interim bantamweight title by technical decision over Andres Campos in Argentina.
The fight was stopped in the ninth round due to an accidental clash of heads that caused a cut above Donaire’s right eye, with all judges scoring in his favor.
At 42 years old, Donaire demonstrated his skill with sharp counterpunches and effective use of his reach.
He is now positioned to challenge the winner of the upcoming Antonio Vargas vs. Daigo Higa bout for the full WBA bantamweight title.
Meanwhile, Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao is set to return to the ring on July 19 to face WBC welterweight champ Mario Barrios.
