FOLLOWING extensive stakeholder consultations, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is now set to submit its proposed Labor and Employment Plan (LEP) to the Cabinet for approval.
This is after the National Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (NTIPC), the consultative and advisory body of DOLE, approved on Friday the draft LEP, which will contain details to promote job generation and how to address other labor-related concerns.
Federation of Free Workers (FFW) President Sonny Matula noted that the LEP could still undergo improvements.
“It is still a work in progress so there is still an opportunity to improve it,” Matula said in an SMS.
He noted labor groups are pushing for the integration of the recommendations of the International Labor Organization-High Level Tripartite Mission (ILO-HLTM) to address Freedom of Association violations, education and training of workers as well as wage review in the LEP.
Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO) secretary general Josua Mata said the LEP will be used to craft the labor roadmap of the Marcos administration.
“My understanding is that the roadmap would have specific activities and time frames that would help realize the LEP,” Mata said.
The labor leader said they will closely monitor the response of the Cabinet, particularly its economic cluster, on the draft LEP.
“The big challenge is how to make our economic managers truly mindful of LEP. For the longest time, LEP is completely ignored by our economic managers,” Mata said.
