DOH CRITICIZED FOR REPEATED DELAYS IN FLU VACCINE PROCUREMENT

House Deputy Majority Leader Rep. Janette Garin criticized the Department of Health (DOH) for delays in procuring flu vaccines, arguing that late arrivals waste resources and undermine effectiveness.

She emphasized that flu vaccines must be timely to match the World Health Organization’s selected serotype and protect during the flu season, which peaks from August to November.

Health experts advocate for early vaccine availability, ideally by June.

Meanwhile, former health secretaries and doctors welcomed a Quezon City court’s dismissal of Dengvaxia-related charges against Garin and other doctors due to insufficient evidence and misrepresented expert testimonies.

Dr. Esperanza Cabral condemned the politicization of public health and the resultant erosion of trust in vaccinations.
