The Department of Health (DOH) called on stakeholders to promote safer road practices and policies during the 2025 Road Safety Summit in Pasay City.
Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa highlighted that road accidents remain a leading cause of death in the Philippines, with about 12,000 fatalities annually and over 37,000 injuries recorded in 2024.
He urged stronger enforcement of traffic laws, improved road behavior, and better infrastructure for two-wheelers and cyclists, while supporting the full implementation of the 30 kph speed limit in city streets.
Advocates said lowering speed limits would make streets safer and encourage more walking, biking, and public transport use, potentially transforming urban areas.
The summit gathered government officials, private sector groups, and international organizations, featuring educational zones and free health and vehicle services.
