The Department of National Defense (DND) and Thailand’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) pledged to strengthen their collaboration in equipment and technology sharing during the fifth Philippines-Thailand Joint Committee on Military Cooperation meeting on September 4 in Mandaluyong City.
Co-chaired by DND Assistant Secretary Marita Yoro and Thai Deputy Permanent Secretary General Tharapong Malakam, the meeting reaffirmed the 1997 Military Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.
Both sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation in humanitarian assistance, disaster response, the defense industry, and technology exchange.
The defense partnership has grown steadily, with Thailand recently offering military equipment to support the Philippines’ modernization program and sharing expertise in cybersecurity and defense manufacturing.
The two countries also discussed regional security issues and pledged to continue regular dialogues and joint activities, with the next meeting to be hosted by Thailand.
