Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed that the Office of the President (OP) chartered the plane that transported former President Rodrigo Duterte to The Hague, Netherlands, for his surrender to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Remulla clarified that the chartered flight, with tail number RP-C5219, was organized by the OP, though he did not reveal the cost or the jet’s owner.
He also refuted Vice President Sara Duterte’s claim that the action was an affront to Philippine sovereignty, explaining that the ICC is a tribunal, not a foreign sovereign entity.
Meanwhile, Remulla responded to criticisms about the investigation into the war on drugs, emphasizing the Department of Justice’s careful gathering of evidence before filing cases.
In a separate issue, Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co denied rumors linking him to the plane or the ICC, dismissing them as “fake news” and clarifying his travel schedule to Rome.
