Filipino Olympian EJ Obiena has dropped to No. 3 in the world pole vault rankings following a fourth-place finish in Paris.
According to the latest World Athletics ratings, Obiena is now behind Sweden’s Armand Duplantis and the U.S.’s Sam Kendricks.
Obiena, who held the No. 2 spot last July, has spent most of the year in the third position.
He revealed that a back injury affected his preparations for the Paris Olympics, where he and Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis both failed to clear 5.95 meters.
Despite this setback, Obiena remains committed to his training and aims to improve his standing, with the Philippine International Pole Vault Challenge scheduled for September 20 in Makati.
