DEPED INTRODUCES SCHOOL SPORTS CLUBS TO PROMOTE STUDENT HEALTH AND FITNESS

The Department of Education (DepEd) has mandated the creation of School Sports Clubs (SSCs) in all public elementary and secondary schools to promote health, fitness, and holistic learner development.

This initiative supports President Marcos Jr.’s call for a healthier and more active Filipino youth and aims to help students recover academically from pandemic-related learning loss.

SSCs will provide two to three hours of supervised sports activities weekly, including mandatory arnis, and promote inclusivity by encouraging unified sports for learners with and without disabilities.

DepEd emphasizes that sports not only improve physical health but also build discipline, teamwork, and resilience, which are vital for academic success and real-life challenges.

Funding will come from various sources, including DepEd’s budget and partnerships, while existing sports clubs must align with the new policy guidelines.
