Following her recent release from nearly seven years of imprisonment, former senator Leila de Lima stated that she is currently not considering a return to the Senate in 2025.
In an interview e Lima explained that she has not yet given it much thought. She emphasized that there are more pressing matters that require her attention before making any political decisions.
Although her political future remains uncertain, De Lima confirmed that she will continue to be a member of the Liberal Party. She expressed her intention to be part of the opposition if she decides to reenter the political arena.
Having served almost her entire Senate term in prison, De Lima faced drug charges filed against her in 2017. Prior to her senatorial role, she served as the justice secretary under the Aquino administration.
On November 13, Judge Gener Gito of the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court Branch 206 granted De Lima’s request for bail, as the prosecution failed to present substantial evidence to establish her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
