Election watchdog Kontra Daya revealed that a majority of the frontrunners in the upcoming party-list race do not represent the poor and marginalized sectors.
According to their report, over half of the leading 155 party-list groups have connections to political dynasties and big businesses, undermining the goal of the party-list law to ensure representation for marginalized communities.
Kontra Daya highlighted that many of these groups are also flagged for questionable affiliations and advocacies, such as 4Ps, ACT-CIS, and Duterte Youth.
Some party lists, like Ako Bicol and TGP, are linked to major businesses, while others, including Duterte Youth, have military ties and a history of red-tagging.
The group raised concerns about the growing dominance of political dynasties and private interests within the party-list system.
