The Commission on Elections (Comelec) approved warrantless arrests for those engaged in vote buying or abusing state resources, with the immediate seizure of campaign materials used in these illegal activities.
The resolution mandates that arrested individuals undergo criminal proceedings at the nearest police station.
Comelec emphasized that these arrests must comply with the Constitution and laws, warning against misuse by law enforcement officers.
Additionally, Chairman George Garcia rejected calls for opposition figures to fill vacancies in the commission, stressing the importance of impartiality in the election process.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has yet to submit guidelines for the implementation of the AKAP program during the election period, which has drawn criticism for its delay.
