The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has denied accusations of planting human remains in Taal Lake, asserting that its diving operations are legitimate and transparent.
PCG spokesperson Capt. Noemie Cayabyab emphasized the dangers faced by divers, who risk their lives in challenging underwater conditions to assist in the investigation of missing sabungeros (cockfight enthusiasts).
So far, five sacks possibly containing human bones have been recovered, with further searches to be aided by a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) capable of reaching depths of 1,000 feet.
Meanwhile, 11 former police intelligence officers tied to the case have been reassigned as the investigation progresses.
The PCG welcomed expert input on preserving evidence integrity and continues its careful search using methodical patterns despite poor underwater visibility.
