On the coast of San Pascual, Masbate, fishermen discovered a yellow, torpedo-shaped device marked with Chinese characters and the designation “HY-119.”
The Philippine National Police retrieved the device and handed it over to the Philippine Navy for further analysis.
Initial assessments suggest it is a Chinese underwater navigation and communication system, potentially used for monitoring and reconnaissance.
This discovery raises national security concerns amid ongoing tensions in the South China Sea.
The Chinese embassy in Manila has not yet commented on the incident.
