China has expressed concerns over Japan and Australia strengthening their defense ties, questioning whether their collaboration is aimed at countering specific countries.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that defense partnerships should promote peace and stability, rather than target third parties.
Her remarks follow recent meetings between Japanese and Australian defense ministers focused on supporting the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) amid rising tensions in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
These tensions have escalated due to recent aggressive actions by Chinese maritime forces, including harassment of Philippine vessels and aircraft.
Japan and Australia have been vocal in urging China to cease its aggressive behavior in the region.
