Justice Secretary Jesus Remulla announced on Wednesday that the government plans to file criminal charges against businessman Tony Yang instead of opting for immediate deportation.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is currently reviewing preliminary charges of falsification and illegal use of an alias against Yang, whose real name is Yang Jian Xin.
Remulla emphasized the importance of pursuing legal action to ensure accountability and deterrence, stating, “We have to know everything first and punish him.”
Yang, also known as Antonio Lim, is linked to an illegal online gaming operation allegedly owned by former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo.
He was apprehended at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on September 19 by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, with assistance from the Bureau of Immigration and military intelligence.
