CBCP URGES SENATE TO ACT ON SARA DUTERTE IMPEACHMENT

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has called on the Senate to proceed with the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, urging senators to decide based on evidence and the principles of justice and righteousness.

The appeal comes after the House of Representatives voted 257–0 to impeach Duterte for a second time, and as the Articles of Impeachment await transmission to the Senate.

The CBCP stressed that the Senate, acting as an impeachment court, should convene without delay, hear witnesses, and evaluate testimony fairly under constitutional duty.

Meanwhile, a public online petition supporting impeachment has reportedly gathered 5.8 million signatures, though its authenticity has not been independently verified.

Various groups and analysts are also pressing the Senate to act promptly, warning of possible public protests if the impeachment process is delayed.
