The Philippines is set to increase imports of Cambodian agricultural products to boost food supply resilience and strengthen bilateral trade, according to the Department of Agriculture.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. met with Cambodian Agriculture Minister Dith Tina during President Marcos’ state visit to Cambodia to discuss cooperation on trade, food security, and market access.
Both officials emphasized the potential of Cambodian products like premium aromatic rice, fish, meat, and vegetables to meet growing demand in the Philippines.
This move builds on a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this year to enhance agricultural cooperation and technical exchange between the two countries.
Trade between the Philippines and Cambodia reached $80.5 million in 2023, with agriculture accounting for $20.4 million.
