The Caloocan City government launched a new livelihood hub for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) on September 27, aimed at providing rehabilitative and income-generating activities.
The project is a collaboration between the local government’s LEIPO, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI).
PDLs can engage in making paper crafts, native bags, rags, and offer hairstyling services through the hub.
Mayor Dale Gonzalo Malapitan praised the partnership between the government and the private sector for supporting vulnerable communities and helping PDLs assist their families.
He emphasized the city’s commitment to law enforcement while also upholding fairness, due process, and rehabilitation for all, including PDLs.
