Calapan City is prioritizing social services, with increased funding for education, housing, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, farmers, fisherfolk, and informal settlers, Mayor Paulino Salvador Leachon said.
Leachon announced expanded scholarships, school improvements, livelihood assistance, and support for farmers and fisherfolk during his State of the City Address on Oct. 1.
The city also plans to relocate informal settlers living along danger-prone riverbanks and displaced farmers to a two-hectare government-owned site in Barangay Guinobatan, with the city covering development costs.
Leachon also reported the completion of 12 kilometers of farm-to-market roads, the launch of the Calapan City 911 Emergency Hotline, and the expansion of the socialized housing program.
He said the city’s programs aim to promote inclusive development and ensure that assistance reaches marginalized and vulnerable residents.
