Residents of Anda and Bolinao in Pangasinan have been advised not to consume shellfish due to red tide contamination, as tests by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) detected paralytic shellfish toxins in local samples.
The public is urged to avoid gathering, selling, or eating all types of shellfish and Acetes sp. (alamang) from the affected areas.
BFAR clarified that fish, squid, crabs, and shrimp remain safe to eat if properly cleaned and cooked.
Local government units have been instructed to enforce the ban to ensure public health and safety.
Authorities continue monitoring coastal waters to prevent further exposure to the toxic algae.
