The Philippine National Police (PNP) issued a warning to the public regarding the rise of “love scams” as Valentine’s Day approaches.
PNP Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. emphasized the need for vigilance against cybercrime, urging citizens to safeguard themselves and their loved ones.
The PNP reported an uptick in online crimes, including 439 cases of online selling scams, 113 investment scams, and 102 debit and credit card fraud incidents.
From January 3 to February 8, the PNP’s Anti-Cybercrime Group conducted 15 entrapment operations and served 29 arrest warrants.
Chief Acorda highlighted prevalent cybercrimes, including 749 cases of online scamming, 368 cases of illegal access, and 147 cases of online libel.
Citizens are advised to prioritize digital safety education and remain vigilant in the face of evolving cyber threats.
