Amid rumors of government destabilization, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced a base pay increase for military and uniformed personnel (MUP) on December 3.
Marcos praised the armed forces and police for remaining steadfast amid challenges such as natural disasters and security threats, including territorial tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
The pay hike, meant to recognize their dedication and service, will apply to personnel from the Department of National Defense, Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Corrections, and other agencies.
The increase will be implemented in three tranches starting January 1, 2026, with the second and third tranches scheduled for 2027 and 2028, while the subsistence allowance will be set at ₱350 per day.
The exact amount of the base pay increase has not yet been specified.
