Fuel prices in Tawi-Tawi have surged to around PHP140 per liter for gasoline and PHP110 for diesel, reportedly due to supply shortages.
The high prices have disrupted transportation, fishing, and other economic activities across the island province, particularly in Bongao.
Bangsamoro Parliament Member John Anthony Lim filed Resolution No. 829 urging the regional government to address the fuel supply and pricing problems.
Roadside vendors have also been selling fuel in bottles, with some reportedly sourcing supplies from Sabah, Malaysia through the southern backdoor.
Lim called on BARMM Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua to implement immediate measures to improve fuel supply and provide relief from rising fuel and transportation costs.
