The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reiterated its commitment to work with the Department of Energy (DOE) to address recent power shortages and alerts in the Visayas grid.
NGCP said the recent yellow and red alerts occurred after several generating units went offline at the same time, reducing available power below demand and reserve requirements.
The DOE earlier blamed delays in securing at least 250 megawatts of ancillary service reserves, saying timely contracts could have helped prevent the alerts and reduce high electricity market prices.
NGCP maintained that ancillary services support grid stability and said contracts depend on suppliers having operational and technically compliant facilities.
The grid operator said it is pursuing additional reserve agreements and transmission projects while coordinating with the DOE to improve power reliability for consumers.
