Sen. Bam Aquino is calling for the immediate passage of Senate Bill 2390, or the Comprehensive School Safety Act, following deadly shooting incidents involving students in Tacloban City and Zamboanga City.
The proposed measure seeks to establish a nationwide framework for preventing and responding to violence and other threats in schools while addressing community, digital, and behavioral risks.
Under the bill, every school would be required to create and annually update a safety plan covering emergency procedures, hotlines, safety infrastructure, digital safety, off-campus activities, and community participation.
Aquino said the framework would involve schools, government agencies, and local communities in developing clearer safety protocols and responsibilities.
The senator is expected to sponsor the measure as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a thorough investigation into the recent school shootings.
