BAGUIO TAPS CORDILLERA FESTIVAL TO DRAW TOURISTS AMID DRY SPELL CONCERNS

The fifth Cordillera Festival of Festivals was held in Baguio City on Oct. 17, featuring traditional dances from across the region to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Month and boost tourism amid the threat of El Niño.

The Cordillera recorded 1.586 million domestic and foreign tourists in 2025, generating an estimated ₱8.87 billion in tourism revenue.

Festival performances showcased the region’s cultural heritage, agricultural traditions, and community practices.

Tourism officials are preparing contingency plans to address possible water shortages and other effects of prolonged drought through mid-2027.

Baguio City and local utility providers are also implementing water reuse and rainwater storage measures to protect residents and tourists.
