Filipino tennis star Alex Eala is back in the spotlight, reclaiming her career-high ranking of 189th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles list. This rise comes after a stellar year marked by tournament wins and podium finishes.
Eala’s climb to 189th follows her impressive silver medal performance at the Kyotec Open in Luxembourg last month, where she narrowly missed out on the top spot to France’s Oceane Dodin.
This achievement caps a successful 2023 for the young Filipina. Eala secured two singles titles throughout the year, one in Yecla, Spain and another in Roehampton, UK. She also came close to victories in two other ITF tournaments.
Beyond individual wins, Eala made history at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, ending the Philippines’ medal drought in the competition. She brought home two bronze medals, one in women’s singles and another in mixed doubles. This marks the first time since 2006 that the Philippines has secured a medal in tennis at the Asian Games.
Eala’s recent achievements showcase her dedication and talent, solidifying her place as a rising star in the world of tennis. With her sights set on even greater heights, the future looks bright for this young champion.
