Angat Dam’s water level dropped to a record-low 152.12 meters, surpassing the previous low recorded during the 2010 El Niño.
PAGASA attributed the decline to below-normal rainfall, which has left the reservoir well below its normal operating level.
Despite expected rains in August, the water level is projected to remain insufficient for irrigation and below ideal levels for power generation and domestic supply.
PAGASA also warned that a strengthening El Niño could further reduce rainfall and worsen water shortages.
Climate forecasts indicate a high probability that El Niño will persist into 2027.
