Filipina tennis star Alex Eala ended her Wimbledon debut with a hard-fought loss to defending champion Barbora Krejcikova, 6-3, 2-6, 1-6, at Centre Court in London.
Eala impressed early, taking the first set with aggressive play and sharp shot-making, but Krejcikova stormed back with dominant performances in the next two sets.
The Czech champion, recovering from a recent injury, displayed her experience and composure to overpower the 20-year-old Filipina.
Despite the defeat, Krejcikova praised Eala’s talent, calling her part of the “next generation” of top players.
Eala remains in the tournament as she is set to compete in the doubles division with partner Eva Lys.
