Kristen Ambriel Aguila opened the Philippine taekwondo team’s campaign at the 3rd Asian Youth Games with a silver medal in the girls’ individual recognized poomsae on Thursday, Oct. 23.
The 15-year-old narrowly lost to Iran’s Zeinab Shahriari, 8.86-8.60, in the gold medal match at the Exhibition World Bahrain Hall 2.
Aguila earlier edged out China’s Yuqi Li in the semifinals, 8.52-8.51, after victories over Kyrgyzstan’s Datkaiym Aibekova and Bangladesh’s Suha Rayefa Syeed in the quarterfinals and round-of-16, respectively.
Last year, she won two golds at the World Taekwondo Grand Slam Youth League in Wuxi, China.
Aguila’s silver adds to the Philippines’ medal tally at the Games, which already includes a gold by Pauline Lopez, bringing the total taekwondo medals to three.
