The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) officially launched the BRP Rajah Sulayman (PS-20), its first offshore patrol vessel, on June 11 in Ulsan, South Korea.
This vessel is the first of six OPVs ordered from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in a PHP30 billion deal to modernize the country’s maritime defense.
AFP Chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. emphasized the ship’s strategic importance in strengthening national sovereignty and maritime security.
The BRP Rajah Sulayman, named after a historic Filipino leader, symbolizes the nation’s resilience and commitment to protecting its waters.
The launch highlights the growing partnership between the Philippines and South Korea in advancing self-reliant defense capabilities.
